Galveston-Houston Mobility Corridor

Posted in Houston on September 24th, 2009 by Becky Ellisor – Comments Off

Thursday evening, September 23, a gathering of people interested in the Galveston-Houston Mobility Corridor occurred at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center in League City. Less than a hundred people showed up. What? You hadn’t heard about it or you would have come? I hope so, because the future of Mass Transit along this corridor will be determined by this group. If you think you should have a say; then go to their website www.galvestonrailstudy.com and read all about it, then leave them a comment, an opinion, an okay or something. This is a history making decision and all of us who live in this area have a say if we want…

Michael Moore’s newest flick

Hey, Michael – I have always loved your stuff. But really, this time you may have blown it. It’s not capitalism that isn’t working; it’s the integrity of individual people that isn’t working. When it becomes ok to cheat, steal, and hornswoggle the public then of course everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Capitalism doesn’t mean that anything is ok as long as it is business. America will move forward when integrity comes back to Capitalism. I will probably still go and watch your show. Surely there will be some good insights, even though the main premis seems to be offtrack.

Lloyd Criss and his new tell all book.

Lloyd Criss gave me a copy of his Political “tell-all” book today. I was interviewing him for this article and he brought it and gave it to me. I guess he thought I might do a better job of plugging his book if I had actually read the whole thing. I had already read four chapters of his rough draft earlier and I knew I was going to love it. I guess he didn’t know that I was already prepared to sing the praises of his book based only on those few pages. He even signed it for me.

His book is wonderful. It is well written, plain and simple and to the point. His style reminds me of Ernest Hemingway. If you ever wondered what it is like to be a politician in the Texas State Legislature, this is the book for you. If you have dreams of becoming a Texas State Representative, then this book was written for you. If you are a history buff, this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If you need to remind yourself that some people actually come to politics just because they want to do good; then read this book. If you just want to read a book about a good man speaking from the heart, this is the book for you. It is a tell-all book and he pulls no punches. Just about every big wig politician in Texas is mentioned, some in a good light and some others he tells the truth as he sees it.

In Lloyd Criss’s introduction to his book Rough and Tumble, Texas Political Combat he says the following. “In conclusion, when all of the political triumphs and defeats presented here are summed up and properly analyzed, it is my hope that the reader will arrive at the following: Political Activism is important and anyone can make a difference regardless of age, gender, income, family background or education.
Just in case you are new to this part of Texas and really don’t know who he is. Let me tell you about Lloyd W. Criss, Jr. of Galveston County. He is a man who loves his wife even after all these years. He is a union man, a pipefitter from Pipefitters Local 200 in Galveston. Lloyd has been a Democrat all of his life. He has served as the Galveston County Democratic Chairman more than once; he served in the Texas State Legislature for twelve years, he ran for the Texas Senate, he has been the manager of several Democratic campaigns including his daughter Susan’s campaign for the Texas Supreme Court. He is a good and honest man. He is a union man. What more can you ask of a person? He is still active in local politics and I suspect always will be.
Lloyd’s book was published by America’s Press in League City. It can be purchased at www.amazon.com and at www.txpoliticalcombat.com .So far all of the responses to his book have been very positive. He has been receiving orders from across the state, Austin, Lubbock, Odessa, etc. and even Washington D.C.

All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness. Eckhart Tolle

Shame on all of us who have allowed this to happen right here in our own country…

I am so sick of the harangue on our President. He is not a socialist and neither are 80% of Democrats. Spreading that lie amongst the citizens of our country is so unpatriotic that it must seem shameful even to most Republicans.  Republicans have been calling Democrats unpatriotic since Tricky Dicky. They are still trying to paint themselves with the American Flag while painting Democrats as commies, which we are not and never will be.  Communism failed every time it was tried and Socialist systems have failed in every instance also. This is America: we are not going to fail.

Get real people; we are Capitalists, too. However, we believe in the capitalism that our parents taught us about: the system where hard work, innovation and change counts. A Capitalist system where honesty is the first precept and integrity is the mainstay. There is so little of that left in the Capitalism we see practiced among us today in America. The current style of capitalism is even being exported overseas where it will eventually be used against our businesses.

Do we really want cheats and liars leading us or fighting us?  I don’t think so and that is why Americans voted for a change in America – a change for the better – a change that returns us to the original roots of Capitalism. We all know that it works; it pushed us to the top of the heap. What happened to our system was greed. That is why we are where we are. Americans have seen how the new capitalism worked and they know it has done them no good. It is not good capitalism when businesses lie and cheat the public. Capitalism is not an economic system where anything goes. “It’s not personal, it’s just business,” has become the byword in big business and even little businesses have caught on to the “survival of the fittest” philosophy which was never meant to mean that cheaters, liars, monopolists, scam artists and other crooks win out. It is not. Our recession/depression thing can be laid right at the feet of those dishonest businesses. Get real America, the land of the free and the home of the brave needs integrity to return to our boardrooms, our city halls and our schools. Every one of us must stand up and say “Enough is enough.”

The truth will set us free. Remember?

This is the first post to my new site. This one will be lots better than the last one. Easier to use, easier to edit and oh so changeable. I hope anyway.
