Lloyd Criss gave me a copy of his Political “tell-all” book today. I was interviewing him for this article and he brought it and gave it to me. I guess he thought I might do a better job of plugging his book if I had actually read the whole thing. I had already read four chapters of his rough draft earlier and I knew I was going to love it. I guess he didn’t know that I was already prepared to sing the praises of his book based only on those few pages. He even signed it for me.
His book is wonderful. It is well written, plain and simple and to the point. His style reminds me of Ernest Hemingway. If you ever wondered what it is like to be a politician in the Texas State Legislature, this is the book for you. If you have dreams of becoming a Texas State Representative, then this book was written for you. If you are a history buff, this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If you need to remind yourself that some people actually come to politics just because they want to do good; then read this book. If you just want to read a book about a good man speaking from the heart, this is the book for you. It is a tell-all book and he pulls no punches. Just about every big wig politician in Texas is mentioned, some in a good light and some others he tells the truth as he sees it.
In Lloyd Criss’s introduction to his book Rough and Tumble, Texas Political Combat he says the following. “In conclusion, when all of the political triumphs and defeats presented here are summed up and properly analyzed, it is my hope that the reader will arrive at the following: Political Activism is important and anyone can make a difference regardless of age, gender, income, family background or education.
Just in case you are new to this part of Texas and really don’t know who he is. Let me tell you about Lloyd W. Criss, Jr. of Galveston County. He is a man who loves his wife even after all these years. He is a union man, a pipefitter from Pipefitters Local 200 in Galveston. Lloyd has been a Democrat all of his life. He has served as the Galveston County Democratic Chairman more than once; he served in the Texas State Legislature for twelve years, he ran for the Texas Senate, he has been the manager of several Democratic campaigns including his daughter Susan’s campaign for the Texas Supreme Court. He is a good and honest man. He is a union man. What more can you ask of a person? He is still active in local politics and I suspect always will be.
Lloyd’s book was published by America’s Press in League City. It can be purchased at www.amazon.com and at www.txpoliticalcombat.com .So far all of the responses to his book have been very positive. He has been receiving orders from across the state, Austin, Lubbock, Odessa, etc. and even Washington D.C.
