My organic fertilizer man came by today to spray my yard and told me my Kumquats were not only ready but delicious. He is right, they are delicious and so beautiful on the tree, too. I can’t wait for spring to come so my flowers start blooming again.
In addition to picking giant lemons from my lemon tree on Christmas Day for lemonade, I was just out in the yard trying to walk around on the wettest ground I have seen in a way long time. I was putting organic pesticide on my ant mounds when I noticed growth on my roses. It is New Years Day, what are those roses thinking? Also took a look at my Ficus tree which I planted in my side yard. It is 20 feet tall now and healthy as can be and I only planted it at most 3 years ago. I planted another one on the other side of the house and it too has done very well except for the Hurricane when it was blown down. I just righted it and it is looking great now. It is amazing to me that a tree I once considered only a big houseplant actually lived when I decided to plant them outside. They make a very pretty lawn tree, too.
My family’s Christmas Dinner included lemonade made by my daughter Lauren. She used just 2 and 1/2 lemons from my lemon tree to make a gallon of it and it was strong juicy lemonade. The lemons on this tree are so big and juicy, I don’t believe the average person has ever seen such huge lemons.
The other amazing thing about these lemons is that they were picked at Christmas. Wish my folks were around to see them. My Christmas Dinner included by sisters, Fran Ellisor and Jeannie Markovich and my cousin Margaret Yeager, of course. Missing was my daughter Elektra Rose and my sister Bonnie Hinrichs and my nephews and nieces who live as far away as Hawaii and Sugar Land.
I pulled the weeds out from the square bed I have around my mailbox. The weeds were driving out the morning glory vines. I did this when I could not stand to sit at my desk one more minute. I was working on some corporate taxes. It is hell to be good at something you really hate and must do because you need the money.
I love this time of year for gardening and being outside: perfect weather. I am taking a class on digital photography Friday. Maybe it will get me confident enough to start taking pictures again after many years of not doing so.
Some of my fruit trees are producing right now. My lemon tree has maybe 25 of the biggest lemons you have ever seen. Well, I have never seen any that big. The pomegranates were really small so I left them on the tree. My hibiscus’ are blooming and the confederate rose also has a few blooms. My purple althea bush bloomed profusely this year, though they are long gone now. My pear trees are still not old enough to produce, I guess.
