They started coming Monday and Mary has been sick every since . I can’t decide if it is because the very word sends her reeling or if she has a UTI (urinary tract infection. She is all of a sudden not lucid and can barely move. Prior to that she was happy and feisty and could walk with walker to her chair. Now she is like a total invalid and can cannot remember what she was just thinking. It is worrying me to death. A House Call Doctor showed up today and ordered a urinalysis. I had been giving her Bactrim for 4 or 5 days which should have made these things go away by now. I will be collecting a urinalysis this afternoon and rushing it back to LabCorp. Hopefully this will pinpoint the problem and she will get back to herself again soon. I will be back to my normal routine by then also.

He got out without his collar on, so no one can bring him back this time. Oh darn, I hear him barking at the door. Stuck with him for sure.

He’s a cute dog and follows me everywhere I go in the house and if I am not quick enough, he gets out everytime I open the door. Getting his city dog tag tomorrow. One more thing to ensure his staying.

If you wonder why I call him demon, it is mainly because he has eaten up almost everything I love except my kids. He can be so cute but he falls into demonhood too easily. He loves to hug and so do I but he wants to sleep practically on top of me at night. He can’t seem to get close enough. I must be doing something right.

He’s getting fixed on the 9th of September. The Doc says that will slow him down. We shall see.

The last few months have been so busy that I have had no time to write. A quick update will have to do. I brought my mother in law Mary Rose to live with me a few months ago. She is 89 and has congestive heart failure. It took a couple of months to fight the care home where she was staying to let us take her from San Antonio. It took a judge and an inordinate amount of stress. If you want a long harangue on the state of care homes for the elderly just ask me. They are much better off at home with you. No one wants to hear this because it takes away the good feeling that Mom or Pop is getting good care and it is ok to just visit them once a week when you are expected.

Ok, I will quit ranting.

I am making a short speech tonight at the Texas Democratic Women of Harris County about the organization I have formed called Take Our Children to Vote, Inc. Check out our website at TakeOurChildrentoVote.org

Some of the finest people I know attend these gatherings and have for many years. I won’t mention any names but they are the salt of the earth. Actually most of the people who stay long term involved in Democratic Politics are good people who care about their neighbors. They care enough to vote and help others to vote. More people should join us. I can’t and won’t say any thing bad about Republicans because they are most often nice people, too. They just haven’t had the fun we have: helping our neighbors.

Worked 18 hours yesterday, with a payrate of 14 hours at 8.50 an hour paid by the County of Harris for my services as an Election Judge in the Democratic Primary. The Democratic Party pays the County back, as do the Republicans. What I really got was the honor of serving my country. I always swear to myself that this election will be the last time, I serve. But like having a baby, the pain is gone at the finish and look what you have: an election that you know was conducted properly and fairly without any fear of cheating while the ballots were in your possession.

It is a damn small price to pay for free elections.
