Quotations I love

Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week. – Charles Richards

Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace. -Dwight D. Eisenhower, U.S. general and 34th president (1890-1969)

33 hardworking men trapped in a mine for maybe four months and hardly any room and no sanitation brings to mind for me a quotation from Elvis Presley.

“Adversity is sometimes hard upon a man; but for one man who can stand prosperity, there are a hundred that will stand adversity.” –  Elvis Presley

If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all. -Noam Chomsky

This is the truth and is necessary for a truly free nation; as much as I would like to shut up some people who spout hatred and bigotry and just plain stupid stuff.

“Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough. Not only have I found that when I talk to the little flower or to the little peanut they will give up their secrets, but I have found that when I silently commune with people they give up their secrets also — if you love them enough.” – George Washington

I love this quote because it tells us about the best side of George. Now I know why John-John named his magazine after him.

Let no man pull you low enough to hate him. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

*** This is an especially important piece of knowledge. Hatred can make you sicker in the mind than anything I know. Nothing lightens a heavy heart more. Forgiveness makes you light as a feather.

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. – George Bernard Shaw

An excellent piece of advice. I wish I had read and understood this quote many, many years ago.

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” – Amelia Earhart

“He can, who thinks he can, and he can’t, who thinks he can’t.
This is an inexorable, indisputable law.” – Pablo Picasso

… according to Becky – So if you think you can’t, don’t even bother to try. Myself, I always think I can do anything. Consequently, I have done many of the things I dreamed about. Somehow, there are always a bunch of dreams in the queue. With just one time around, don’t waste a single precious moment, unless it’s for dreaming…
